Lt. Colonel Bjoern Rueckold joined the armed forces following his officer training in Germany and France. He holds a Master of Science in Risk Management and Economics from the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. He continued his operational career as an Air Defence Missile Officer on the PATRIOT weapon system. Following a posting as a Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) Planning Officer at NATO HQ AIRCOM in Ramstein, he assumed command of a PATRIOT squadron.
He subsequently served as a Desk Officer at the Air Force Command in Berlin before completing the French Command and Staff Course at the École de Guerre in Paris. He currently serves as the Deputy Director of the NATO Space Centre of Excellence (SPACE COE). Lt. Col. Rueckold draws on extensive operational experience from three overseas deployments, including a seven-month tour as Military Assistant within the UN mission MINUSMA in Mali.
