David Byrne was appointed as Head of Unit, Information Superiority in the Capability, Armament and Planning Directorate at the European Defense Agency on 1st March 2024. Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1966, he joined the Irish Civil Service in 1984.
Prior to his current assignment he was a Project Officer in EDA with responsibility for the Implementation of the Capability Development Priorities. He was appointed to this post in May 2019.
He has served in a number of Ministeries in Ireland from 1984 to 2019 and had specific responsibility for EDA matters within the Irish Ministry of Defence from 2010. As part of these responsibilities David sat on a large number of EDA working bodies and in 2015 he was appointed to the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU.
Mr. Byrne holds, amongst a number of qualifications, a degree in Public Administration from the Irish Institute of Public Administration and a post graduate Diploma in International Studies and Negotiation from the University of Kent, UK.
