Major (GS) Pfaffenbauer is Policy Officer for Space and Emerging Disruptive Technologies within the Strategy and Policy Division of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence. In this role, he aligns national military space policy with European security and space-related frameworks, contributes to the whole-of-government approach to space security, and shapes a coherent and strategic national military space ambition. Prior to his current position, he served as commanding officer and staff officer at various leadership levels within armored and infantry battalions. In 2021, he transitioned to the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence as a Policy Officer for Armaments Cooperation, followed by a foreign deployment as a Staff Officer. He holds a diploma in Military Leadership from the Theresian Military Academy and completed the 23rd General Staff Course at the Austrian National Defence Academy, graduating with a Master’s degree in Military Leadership.
